The NBA is off this week, but the WNBA schedule still offers a useful run of measuring games from Monday through Sunday. Golden State has two different tests, New York meets Indiana again, Minnesota brings the league's cleanest recent profile to the Valkyries, and BSN supplies a direct rematch between Vaqueros de Bayamon and Aguada Santeros.

The Week Ahead watchlist

Dallas Wings @ Golden State Valkyries (WNBA)

Date: 2026-08-17

The angle: whether Golden State's recent three-point accuracy can turn a familiar opponent into a different kind of game.

The Valkyries have made 38.3% of their threes across their latest five-game sample, compared with 34.1% for Dallas. Golden State beat the Wings 94-76 on Aug. 7, then won at Los Angeles. Dallas answered with a 94-88 win over Toronto on Aug. 12, so the visitors are not arriving without a response.

The tactical question is where those shots come from. Golden State's spacing is at its best when the first action forces Dallas to help, then the ball moves quickly to the weak side. The Wings need to make those decisions harder without giving up the straight-line drives that create the next pass. If the Valkyries are again able to reach their preferred catch-and-shoot rhythm, the game can tilt before Dallas gets its half-court defense set. For Dallas, the cleanest answer is to make the Valkyries defend repeated actions and keep the three-point gap from becoming a possession-by-possession tax.

New York Liberty @ Chicago Sky (WNBA)

Date: 2026-08-18

The angle: the rebounding gap, especially after New York's first miss.

New York has averaged 39.4 rebounds over its latest five games, while Chicago has averaged 31.0. That eight-rebound difference is the clearest structural angle here, especially after the Liberty won the first meeting 95-94 on July 22.

The Sky have shown enough offense to make this uncomfortable. They shot 39.2% from three over their latest five games, better than New York's 33.4%, and won two of those five. Chicago's route is to finish defensive possessions, force New York to work for clean looks, and turn its perimeter shooting into a reason for the Liberty to stay attached instead of crashing the glass.

New York has won five straight in the latest sample, including a 111-71 result against Las Vegas on Aug. 9. That run makes the rebounding detail more important, not less. Chicago cannot allow a hot start from the Liberty to become a parade of extra possessions. The Sky need the kind of first-contact work that keeps their shooting edge relevant into the fourth quarter.

Atlanta Dream @ Las Vegas Aces (WNBA)

Date: 2026-08-18

The angle: which team gets to the free-throw line with enough regularity to control the middle quarters.

Las Vegas has converted 86.7% of its free throws across its latest five games, while Atlanta has converted 80.6%. The gap becomes meaningful when the teams trade possessions against defenses trying to avoid clean paint touches. The Aces beat Atlanta 109-87 on Aug. 3, giving the Dream a recent blueprint to study.

Atlanta's latest five include a 107-95 win over Toronto and a 96-82 win over Phoenix. The offense has enough movement to create pressure, but the Dream cannot rely on making every difficult jumper. Their best version gets Las Vegas rotating, then punishes late contests with free throws or a close-range finish.

The Aces are coming off a 92-87 loss to Minnesota on Aug. 15, while Atlanta has had more time since its last game. That rest contrast is worth tracking without turning it into an excuse. If Las Vegas establishes its physicality early, its free-throw edge can become a useful stabilizer. If Atlanta keeps the Aces away from the stripe, the rematch should look less like the first meeting and more like a possession battle.

Minnesota Lynx @ Golden State Valkyries (WNBA)

Date: 2026-08-19

The angle: whether Minnesota can keep its turnover count under control against a Golden State team that has protected the ball well lately.

The Lynx have averaged 13.2 turnovers over their latest five games, compared with 9.8 for Golden State. Minnesota can win this matchup with pace and precision, but empty possessions will give the Valkyries the transition chances they need at home.

Minnesota has won four of its latest five, including a 92-87 road win at Las Vegas on Aug. 15 and an 85-81 result at Portland on Aug. 12. Golden State has also won four of five and scored 94 or more in three of those wins.

The defensive possession after a turnover may be the hinge. Golden State will want to convert a live-ball mistake into an early attack before Minnesota can build its shell. The Lynx need to value the pass that starts the possession as much as the shot that finishes it. A clean Minnesota evening would put the Valkyries into longer defensive sequences. A loose one would let Golden State use the same perimeter confidence it brings into Monday's game against Dallas.

Indiana Fever @ New York Liberty (WNBA)

Date: 2026-08-22

The angle: whether New York can answer the matchup problem Indiana created in the first meeting.

Indiana beat New York 108-88 on July 18, giving the Fever a clear head-to-head reference point. The follow-up detail is Indiana's recent shot-making: 45.1% from three over its latest five games, compared with 33.4% for New York. If Indiana gets the same rhythm, the Liberty must change the geometry of the game rather than simply play harder.

New York's counter is visible in its recent results. The Liberty have won five straight in the latest sample, including a 111-71 win over Las Vegas and a 92-86 win over Seattle. Their offense is creating enough separation to make this a test of adjustments, not just revenge. New York needs to keep Indiana's first action from pulling the defense apart, then make the Fever defend through multiple efforts on the other end.

The earlier result also gives Indiana a reason to stay patient. There is no need to chase a fast game if that shot profile can be recreated. New York has to make the rematch feel different before the scoreboard says otherwise.

Aguada Santeros @ Vaqueros de Bayamon (BSN)

Date: 2026-08-19

The angle: whether Aguada's home floor can offset Bayamon's recent road results.

This BSN rematch adds a different rhythm to a WNBA-heavy week. In the current results sample, Aguada is 3-4 at home, while Vaqueros de Bayamon are 2-4 on the road. The question is whether Aguada can make its building matter against a team that has already won this matchup away from home.

The teams have met twice recently. Bayamon won 91-75 at home on Aug. 9, then edged Aguada 87-86 on Aug. 12 with Aguada hosting. The return meeting should be decided by the first stretch in which one side strings together stops. Aguada's latest five-game sample includes wins of 95-89 and 96-89 over Leones de Ponce, while Bayamon has paired a 122-79 win over Criollos de Caguas with a 96-88 result against the same opponent.

The Vaqueros have been the more explosive team in this short run, but Aguada has been comfortable in closer games. That makes the late possessions more interesting than a simple form comparison. Bayamon will want to make the game move before Aguada can settle into its home rotations. Aguada needs to keep the score within reach, protect the defensive glass, and make the previous one-point meeting feel like a useful lesson rather than a near miss.

How to watch

Use each match page for the latest start time and the best watch options in your region. Start times and availability can change, particularly for WNBA games inside national broadcast windows. If you are watching from outside a league's home market, confirm that the broadcast is licensed where you are before settling in.

The practical route through the week is Golden State and Dallas on Aug. 17, New York and Chicago on Aug. 18, then Minnesota and Golden State on Aug. 19. The BSN return meeting gives that same date a different texture, while Indiana at New York on Aug. 22 is the weekend game with the clearest built-in adjustment story.
